Built for a New Generation of TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
We delivered a fully integrated AV ecosystem for a leading university football program, connecting film review, coaching, and player development across a 92,000-square-foot training facility.
Project Name
AV Ecosystem for a Major University's Football Program
Client
A Major University in the Southeast
Integration Dates
October 2024 – August 2025
Location
Florida
- 92,000-square-foot integrated AV environment
- 65+ standardized rooms
- $500,000+ saved through value engineering
- Weight room system with three short-throw projectors
- Unified platform supporting all coaching environments
- 11 prefabricated AV racks
The Challenge
A leading university in the Southeastern U.S. set out to redefine how its football program communicates and prepares, with the goal of closing a critical gap between film study and on-field performance.
Previously, players could review game footage only on a single display in a conference room, limiting coaches’ ability to translate strategy into real-time execution.
To strengthen the facility’s infrastructure and support player development, the university engaged IES Communications and another firm; IES Communications served as the project’s AV integrator and value-engineering partner.
Key challenges included:
- Supporting real-time visualization and interactive tools for coaching staff and players
- Delivering consistent AV functionality across multiple space types with different use cases
- Translating film analysis into on-field walkthrough scenarios
- Avoiding schedule delays and cost overruns while meeting budget goals
The Solution
Our experts implemented the integrated AV ecosystem that connects critical environments throughout the 92,000-square-foot training facility, enabling seamless communication, audio distribution, and content sharing. The connected environment includes one of college football’s largest walkthrough spaces, along with performance areas, displays in meal-prep and dining spaces, and administrative offices.
When IES Communications was first engaged, the project was at risk of stalling due to an over-budget design. Utilizing our Solutions Engineering Group (SEG), IES Communications delivered more than $500,000 in savings and preserved the client’s original vision.
A central component of our solution is the film-to-floor workflow, which allows coaching staff to:
- Overlay and analyze opponent tendencies and formations in every meeting environment
- Transition film analysis directly into walkthrough scenarios using the same visual inputs
- Align player movement across offensive, defensive, and special teams scenarios in real time
This integrated workflow enables a continuous flow of instruction and eliminates the need to shift between disconnected systems or environments.
To support high-performance audio and communication, we deployed standardized conferencing and AV technologies, including custom Fulcrum Acoustics speaker systems, Shure microphones, Sony projectors, Q-SYS control and processing platforms, and JBL audio components.
The Execution
- Value Engineering: We reworked the original design to meet budget expectations through strategic manufacturer changes, leveraging LED partner Absen to preserve system intent while achieving more than $500,000 in client savings.
- Prefabrication: We used our AV prefabrication process to deliver 11 AV racks, improving efficiency, quality control, and schedule alignment.
- Standardization: We unified AV systems across 65+ rooms for ease of use and reliability.
- Coordination: We worked closely with the client's construction team to support timelines, sequencing, and integrations.
The Integrated Result
- Walkthrough Environment: Coaches can now align players and simulate plays in real time, with AV extending into adjacent areas to support continuous communication.
- Position Rooms: Interactive short-throw projection systems support film breakdown for offense, defense, and special teams.
- Weight Room: Using three Sony projectors, the large-format system supports workouts, nutrition content, and motivational media, complete with fully integrated, high-performance audio.
- Conference Rooms: The conference rooms now use a high-performance conferencing system in place of the previous Bluetooth-based set up, providing consistent and reliable communication throughout the facility.
