Project Overview
To create a new production facility with advanced technology infrastructure capable of supporting complex broadcast and business operations, a leading U.S. commercial broadcast network needed a comprehensive solution encompassing structured cabling, AV, and security systems. IES Communications integrated these technologies to provide reliable connectivity and high-performance operations.
A Model for Early-Stage Planning
To understand the project requirements and determine how to meet stakeholder needs within established budgets, IES Communications collaborated with the company's internal stakeholders, broadcast consultants, and general contractor (GC) during the earliest stages of design.
In addition, our engineering team, including specialists in AV, structured cabling, and security, collaborated closely with the client's broader project team throughout the design process. We provided budgeting, drawings, scope narratives, and coordinated system recommendations to eliminate scope gaps, support seamless integration, and maintain clear communication among all project partners.
The project scope included white-space design for the base building and design-assist services for cabling in the data halls and technical work areas.
It also included the installation of:
• 1,200 Category 6A (Cat 6A) cables in non-technical work areas
• 466 Cat 6A cables in technical work areas
• 188 pre-connectorized fiber-optic trunk cables in technical work areas
• Fiber-optic cabling throughout non-technical work areas
Expanding the Team & Project Scope
As the design progressed, the IES Communications construction team expanded to include project managers and specialists in AV, structured cabling, security, administration, BIM coordination, and document control.
During the design process, the client expanded the original design-build scope to include a major satellite facility, demonstrating the client’s confidence in our ability to execute large-scale, mission-critical systems.
To support the expanded scope, our team established a rigorous communication and documentation process for tracking RFIs, directives, change orders, and construction bulletins. This process supported timely information sharing, effective coordination across disciplines, and accurate stakeholder updates at major project milestones and quality assurance checkpoints.
When It Has to Work, It Has to Be Right
